Post 1990 325i cranks, will not start, ECU shutdown?

Hi all, First post on the forum so if I do something stupid please let me know,

I recently purchased a 1990 325i at an auto auction. The mechanic that works for the auction company is a friend and said when it was brought to the lot, it ran like a champ, there was just a small leak in a fuel line under the car (the previous owner was kind enough to leave a detailed letter and diagram of where the leak was and it was easy to fix). By the time the auction occured, the car had been sitting on the lot for a couple weeks and the battery had died. When the people who run the lot hooked up their mobile battery jumper unit, the car cranked but wouldn't start, but for a bid of $900 dollars and a friend's word, I took the chance.

I towed it back to my place where first replaced the fuel pump. No go. I checked the plug wires as I cranked the car and there was no spark. So I changed the distributor. Still no spark. I've tested and replaced the fuses and relays in the fuse box still to no avail.

This car has not been in a wreck, it doesn't have any rust, even the interior is in impeccable shape. Me, my father, and our friend the mechanic are stumped as to why this car will not start. This is the first BMW I have owned and I know that there's a lot of 'tech' that goes into the anti-theft/security/ECU and was wondering if there is some correlation between the battery dying and the ECU possibly needing a reset before it allows the motor to fire? Or possibly the car key/door unlocker could have something to do with it (I've read that the key controls the "Central Locking System" and don't know if that means just doors or doors/immobilizing the motor?)

Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

Thank you,

Zac
