Post 1990 BMW e34 525i M20 Engine (Manual) - Rough IDLE / Stalls

Hey there guys, i'm having an odd problem and i hope any expertise can help...

...Long story short... dad bought a e32 750iL... Cluster didn't light up... also had after-market radio (Pioneer), took it out...

I then put this radio into my e34 525i and lo and behold, my cluster don't work (ps... dads still no longer turns on)... and my IDLE is rough as hell and every time i try to accelerate, the engine almost bogs out...

So i took out the radio post-haist and that solved the Cluster problem.. lights worked in my car... but the idle is still rough.. althought i drove it twice and the cars idle had leveled a little bit.. but it still drops and raises and even stalls on occasion...

I have no idea what could be the problem.. I've thought O2 sensor, Idle control... but i don't know?... i haven't tried any of these ideas yet tho, not until i can gather some feedback...

Last info, all i did was remove the negative terminal from the battery... otherwise, i didn't touch much else... i did take the back seat off, tho i didn't touch any relays there..

So... any help would be much appreciated... i'm sorry for babbling on, just a little annoyed at myself...

Thanks again for help. Regards Matty

how about your spark plugs, clean the throttle valve, etc. only the scanner will know if the O2 sensors are needed to be replace.

Thank man, yeh, i talked to a friend of mine across to road today and he recommended new plug too, got some standard NGK's, just gotta file the tops to arch better.. i'll give that ago...

the car today seems a little better again.. im more and more thinking it could just be regulation from the battery being unhooked... but still i'll change the plugs and see...

also can you tell me more about the throttle valve and cleaning it? also what scanner?...

Thanks again,

Matty

Hey there... well plugs are changed, but no real improvement... seems that the 6th plug was a tad loose and there seems to be a tad bit of oil there..  but the engine ran (and still runs on higher revs) quite smoothly, so compression is fine....

Again though it seems a bit better today... it evens out if i don't move the car in about 3-4 rise and falls in revs, evening out to 650rpm...

...a little extra info... a person i talked to recommended disconnecting the AFM and trying the engine.... did that and the engine did flatten out faster... replugged in the AFM and then the revs wouldn't hold again... any ideas on that?

Thank you again

Matty

P.S.. throttle valve... how do i clean it and where is it? & i have no clue by what a scanner is? could you tell me? .. thanks again
