Hi,

My wife has a 1997 BMW 328i, which we decided to drive to North Carolina from Jacksonville, FL.  It drove fine, but the check engine light came on 5 hrs into the 7 hour trip.  We got to our destination without issues.  However, the following morning after it starting up the first time and running only briefly, it will not start again.  It will turnover, but does not start fully without pumping the gas.  If we take our foot off the gas, the car will stall.  There is also a strong gas smell now outside.  

Has any one had or heard of this?

I have a 1995 318i, that actually has a 1996 engine.  The car was built late 1995.  Anyway, the check engine light has been coming on pretty steady now, but does not stay on.  The car stalls every time you slow or come to a stop - at a light or stop sign.  I have had it it to the Dinan shop and they have not come up with anything.  The O2 sensor was changed once.  I am hoping someone else had this problem and what they did to fix it.

there is 2 things that can cause this and each of them are not expensive at all. #1 The TPS or (Throttle Position Sensor), and #2 The Mass Airflow Sensor. Each item will effect the stalling if not ON the gas pedal, and will also prevent the car from starting as well.
