Maybe the exact model # isn't important, but my 6 disc cd changer, which is in the trunk, has malfunctioned. It is BMW brand. The BMW dealership says that the cd that was playing at the time of the malfunction is "below" where it is supposed to be, as in, a part probably broke and the cd fell. It says, "disc error" on the radio display on the dash. The cd magazine still ejects, but the mechanism that removes from or replaces cds to the magazine can't do its job.

The service and parts manager at the dealership says they want to do a $125 diagnostic (my BS-o-meter is going off) before they can do anything. He also said that the parts are not interchangeable nor replaceable (BS-o-meter going off again). So, I'm thinking I'll take a chance and try to repair it myself. Any nay-sayers? Is what the manager says true??? Or do I just remove the disc changer, smash it with a hammer to get the one cd out, and install a compatible, non-BMW(he also said they cannot replace my disc changer with another BMW one as my car is too old) 6 disc changer?

I know a cd player is not essential, but I want my darn music!
