87 325e cuts out, hesitates on fast acceleration. I just paid local "foreign" shop $1k to replace fuel pump, filter, clean throttle body and replace shifter bushings. Still hesitates. Another more knowledgable shop wants to keep it overnight and do a "cold fuel pressure test" or something for $200. He thinks it's more than likely the mass air sensor.
I'm tempted to get a used sensor out of a wrecking yard for $50 and stick it in myself.
Are these symptoms typical of a bad mass sensor? I'd hate to spend 300 or so for a new one and find out that's not the problem. Even if the used one makes it act different I'd at least know that's the problem, right?
Or, would a bad used one create the same symtoms?
