air conditioning repair

Post air conditioning repair 

I have an 1991 525, That people are saying i need a fan clutch for the air conditioning at $1400. Is their any tips that I might be able to repair this myself. Have work on vechiles but am not sure i am up to the task . But I do know I don'T have
$14oo to spend. any thought will be appreciated

Not that big of a deal. There is a special tool to hold the pulley while you unscrew the coupling nut (left handed threads!!!).

Are you sure the fan clutch is your A/C problem? The only way that could be is if the clutch was shot and the fan was freewheeling. Therefore not pulling enough air through the radiator/condenser, which can prevent heat from being drawn from the refrigerant in the condenser.

not sure excatly! the independent repair shop was recommending$1400 for repairs, sounds like a compressor and drier to me. The car is by my son and i will get there in a couple months. thanks for your reply I do appreciate that.

Well, a fan clutch is not going to cost $1400. If the compressor came apart, $1400 is realistic for parts, flushing, evacuation and recharge. And there's really no way around it other than getting prices elsewhere.
