BMW 730iL E38 1995 catalytic converters

Can the 2 nos. converters somehow be removed n replaced with thru pipes? The local mechanic said no, cos of sensors in the converters. I m in Brunei, Asia (right hand drive).

yes it can be done but you need to modify some parameters on the ECU. these sensors are used to check the oxygen in order for the engine to get the ideal fuel/air ratio. bypassing the catalytic converter can make you fail on the smog test too since these converters purifies the air coming out as a result of the combustion.
