Post Car started then stopped.

I went to the supemarket yesterday in my 2000 323i, everything was fine but when I got back in the car and started it the engine would start then stop immediately unless I kept my foot on the gas. It lasted a few minutes, I managed to drive away every time I put my foot on the clutch and release the gas it would stop again. After about half a mile the problem dissapeared. Its just playing on my mind now as I don't know whether it will happen again. Any ideas guys?

things to look up to is the crankshaft sensor. it could be one of the cause if it occurs again. or better yet have your car diagnosed by a scanner.
