I own a 1989 525I and I have some problems with my dash. All of my dash lights don’t work, the LCD bar on the bottom of the dash doesn’t light up but in the right light I can see that it is working and changing numbers. Also the speedo fluctuates randomly while I’m driving. All of my other electronics work fine and I have tried the fuses under the hood and they are all good and I switched out the dash with my parts car and the problem is still there, what can be causing this   problem???

you need to remove the instrument cluster and inspect.

if you need the instruction on how to do it just let me know. be sure that you have the guts or just leave it to a seasoned technician. there are delicate parts you needed to touch before pulling out the cluster.
