Post E36 325 auto immobiliser problems

Hi all,
, new to this site,Having a problem with my 325 auto e36 1994, was running perfect until recently, went to start the other morning and nothing happened, except indicators started flashing, when i moved the indicator stick from L to R the ignition lights came on ????
initially thought battery was flat ,so recharged and replaced, but car still wont start and still flashes indicators.
if I remove the negative terminal and replace ,lights stop flashing until the door is opened.
wondering whether immobiliser has set itself and wont turn itself off.

any one got any ideas.

all the best
