Post E46 17 inch wheel -not happy with ride quality

Hi every one,
recently joined the club buying a 2003 E46 320 D, love the always eager engine steering handling, only niggle is I absolutely hate the quality of the ride. It is very brittle and unsettlingaround town in low speeds. My old cheapo vauxhall astra had a much better ride compared IMO. I do have 17inch 225/45 wheels on my car. it is the culprit? I have driven my cousins 520 ,its got 15inch 220/60 ttyres and i love the ride. If I change the wheel/tyres to 16 inch 55 high tyres do you think it would improve, or am i always stuck because of the suspension setup. I know it is a step in the opposite direction many in this forum would do but iam prepared to sacrifice a bit in handling for a little more ride comfort, besides my cousin 520 on 15 inch 220/60 tyres did handled handsomly as well as having a magic carpet ride
thanks in advance for your responses
Sanjay

Hi
I know what you mean, I   get excatly the same. I may eventually get back to the 15 or 16's they are better for ride quality.   225's are terrible if you drive  over uneven road surface, difficult to the car going in a straight line.
