Post Looking to buy a new used car

I'm looking at buying a newer luxury sports car, and am interested to hear what bmw owners have to say. I've basically got it narrowed down between BMW and Mercedes (I know I'm gonna get some biased answers on here) I have been looking at the 3-series 6 cylinder cars. I haven't really decided how much i want to pay yet either and am trying to decide whether I want an older e36 or if i would rather spend a little more and get an e46. For example lets say im looking at a 1992 325i, a 1996 328i convertible, a 1998 328i (e46), a 1998 mercedes e320, 1997 mercedes e420, 2000 mercedes clk320, What are some of the pros and cons of each of these?  It almost seems as the more luxurious I go the less sporty, and vice versa.

Haha first vote! K, first off, yes I am biased a little... BUT, I do like the benz's too, so my bias isn't that much in one brand v.s. the other. How ever I still have to tip my hat towards the bimmers just for the sliiiiightly less expensive repairs and greater over all appeal. Now within the bmw's I had to pick an e36 model as it's more of a legitimate THREE series car, the e46's started getting bigger and not so much the smaller little cars I believe the 3's should be. With that being said in the e36's... C'mon... who doesnt love a convertible? haha aside from winter drivers i suppose, but depending on where your from and what other cars you have that may not even be a problem. But then if you don't mind, might I suggest, (since you're willing to spend a little extra on an e46) why not take a look at an e36 M3??? much sportier, and still has that luxury feel to it being a bimmer after all, a family friend of mine has one, and just letting it open up on the high way hearing the engine and exhaust rumble as you fly by a couple people, it's honestly enough to give you goosebumps! Well... It did for me at least... It's actually quite exhillerating. But I'm sure no matter what you pick in either of these two very good brands of cars you'll be happy, they are all pretty great!
