Garage Cabinets, Garage Storage, and Garage Organization

We have a 2002 525i.  Lately, the luggage compartment hood will not open either by the key fob or the drivers side release button.  It will open by inserting and turning the key in the lock.  The other electornic releases on the same fob do work:  doorlocks and alarm set.  I looked through the fuse box, but nothing (that I could see) was exclusively marked as being for the luggage comparment and none of the fuses appeared to be burned out.  There are some relays in the trunk fuse box, but not marked.  Any ideas?  It appears to be simple if one knows how to find things (which I don't).

The trunk-lid unlocking takes place by means of an electrical drive that unlocks the rotary catch of the luggage compartment lid.
The unlocking can be operated from following points:

Remote control
The remote control can be used to unlock the luggage compartment lid independent of the state of the central-locking system

Rear lid button in rear lid
The luggage compartment lid can be unlocked when the central-locking system is in the state ”unlocked” and the vehicle is stationary.

Interior button (only for USA vehicles)
The luggage compartment lid can be unlocked when the terminal R is off and the vehicle is stationary (terminal R function can be coded). The luggage compartment lid can also be unlocked when the central-locking system is in the state ”locked”.
