Garage Cabinets, Garage Storage, and Garage Organization

Hello to everyone.  I am in the market for my first BMW.  I am looking for something in the 7 series.  The range of years run from as early as 1997 to as new as 2002.   After reading so many posts about the likelyhood of buying someone else's repair problems, I am kinda worried.  I purchased a 1989 MB 560 SEC that was inexpensive on the front end, but very expensive to keep road worthy.  I do not want to repeat that episode.  What should a novice be very aware of and quickly run away from?  I can handle minor repairs, it comes with the years.  If anyone can tutor me, please sound off?  Thanks to everyone, in advance, for any and all assistance.
