  hi could anyone shed some light on this problem of poor fuel economy on my 530d se on a 2000. averages 23mpg locally, it is an auto. but i think it still should be better.  it is also noiser that it should be, could it be some sensors. mass meter has been changed its on a few computers all say a ok. power is not a problem when you get going feels heavy when setting off from stand still. pretty slow to move off and you can tell its a desiel, its loud.  what could it be anybody any suggestions....would be appreciated thank you.....

it could be numerous reasons... excessive fuel pump pressure or the fuel pump is leaking, clogged air cleaner, idle too fast, fuel injector is leaking, engine misfiring, automatic transmission slipping or not upshifting, loss of compression or excessive rolling resistance.

thanks for that reply i suspect i might have a problem with the fuel system (desiel), the fuel throttle switch was changed which was in a bad state i was told. bits had been broken. how can i do further checks with this. any parts which i can change or what parts are there in the fuel system.  thankyou..
