Post Possible 1998 M3 purchase

I am considering purchasing a 1998 M3 4d sedan with approx 70K on it. The car itself has been kept spotless. however upon reviewing the reliability info on MSN for this year, it indicated that there was significant engine problems for 1998 and 1998 (motronic Control unit). Does anyone know the extent of the problems?

I don't know what the problem is, but I do have a 98 M3 convertible with 82K miles on it.  Car is great.  I have had no problems with the car and have owned it for 2 years.  I have all or the service records from the previous owner and they all relate to general maintenance.  Nothing about engine problems.

Motronic Control unit main system characteristics

* Fuel delivery ignition timing and dwell angle incorporated into the same ECU.
* Crank position and engine speed is determined by a pair of sensors reading from the flywheel.
* Separate constant idle speed system monitors and regulates base idle speed settings.
* 5th injector is used to provide extra fuel enrichment during different cold-start conditions.
* Depending on application and version,an oxygen sensor may be fitted (the system was originally designed for leaded fuel.
* No knock sensor.
