I have a 1995 BMW 318i, on starting the car it revs to around 2000 RPM, it does this for sometimes around 10 minutes. apart from sounding rough especially in the morning, it has highly increased ful consumption and is a little embarassing when sitting at the lights with this noisy engine revving at 2500!
what is the problem? hope anyone here could help me.

Hi there, problem may be in a throttle valve...

Maybe check you water themostat my be stuck open and engine is slow at warming up to correct temp.

I have exactly the same problem.. what could it be? my RPM is reving on 2000 on cold start.. I have a bmw 318i. I've got no idea how to fix this problem and it consumes high on gasoline.

maybe also try checking your vacuum lines..Good Luck!

Sounds like the idle control valve

If it only does this until it gets warm, I'd suggest there's somethin' wrong with the cold start system

Check the vacuum lines first tho, make sure there all attached and make clean seals
