Post Twisted e34 front seat...

I have a 1993 525i w/ electric seats..and right side has lost its fwd/backward motion....I repaired the drive cables going to the seat gearbox using the rubber hose and clamps method to get one set of the gears working.  However, I noticed only 1 set of gears are moving on both sides...there are 4 gears in all...2 on each side...my question is do I have a bad motor that drives the other 2 gears?  and if so how do i check that?
Note:  there are 2 sets of gears on left and 2 sets gears on right side of seat to activate the seatback goin fwd/backward, and 2 seat motors for this motion. crazy
