Garage Cabinets, Garage Storage, and Garage Organization

Hello everyone.

I'm Jake, I'm an hobby-mechanic and I just bought an '89 535i that needs another electronic-hydraulic transmission.

Here's the problem: The door tag lists the car as a 535i/A-USA with a production date of 7/88, but the mode switch next to the selector lever is listed in the owners manual (pg. 30) as a Canadian version. I have a 3-position switch with an "S", "E", & "M": Slide forward for sport mode, slide back for manual mode, or press down for economy mode. The transmissions I've found in the classifieds, so far, have the "A" and "M" on the switch: Forward for automatic mode or back for manual mode...I don't know how the sport mode is accessed. I understand this is the US version (from the owners manual). Since I want to do all my own mechanic work, and have only recently started working on BMW's, where can I look to find out what trannys will work? It seems that a 535i or 735i auto from '89-'91 will work, but I need to make sure.

Any ideas? I've slammed into a wall on this problem.
